Departing from the Dunedin Railway Station, travel by rail through the Taieri Gorge, crossing century-old viaducts, tracing the Taieri River, and moving through inland landscapes shaped by time.
Travel through the Taieri Gorge aboard The Taieri Gorge Train, a five-hour heritage rail journey departing from Dunedin Railway Station. Following the historic Taieri Gorge Railway, the route winds through remote landscapes, crossing century-old viaducts and passing through 10 hand-carved tunnels. Travel over more than 12 bridges and viaducts, including the Wingatui Viaduct, the largest wrought iron structure in the Southern Hemisphere. When weather conditions allow, step off at Deep Stream to walk across the century-old bridge and watch the train cross towards you. Onboard storytellers share the people, places and engineering that shaped the railway. Available one-way or return between Dunedin and Pukerangi.
