Celebrate Matariki in Ōtepoti with Matariki mā Puaka, where the night sky comes alive with dazzling drone lights, weaving local stories into the stars.
Join us for an unforgettable evening featuring a spectacular drone light show, lighting up the night sky at 6:00 PM and again at 8:30 PM on 21 June. This awe-inspiring display will be a highlight of the celebrations, perfect for all ages.
Enjoy live entertainment throughout the evening, including performances by 1 Drop Nation, powerful kapa haka by He Waka Kotuia, and the evocative sounds of Taonga Pūoro — traditional Māori instruments that connect us to the natural world.

Matariki mā Puaka is a celebration of unity, inclusion, and diversity — a time for all to come together in the spirit of Matariki. Matariki and Puaka are stars that rise in the night sky, marking the beginning of the Māori New Year. This special occasion invites us to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope to a bright and prosperous future.

Hailing from Otautahi/Christchurch, 1 Drop Nation has become one of Aotearoa’s must-see acts with an electrifying live show that engages the crowd from Start to finish. Their unique blend of Roots/Rock/Funk & Reggae brings a fresh vibe to the music scene in Aotearoa and will have you feeling all sorts of good.

Kā Wānaka (Workshops)
Take part in workshops and storytelling sessions that explore rich creation narratives, Mahika kai (traditional food gathering practices), and the meanings behind local place names. These experiences offer a deeper understanding of the cultural and environmental heritage of the region.

Kai (Food)
Enjoy the vibrant night food market and dining area, offering a range of delicious kai, or bring your own picnic and relax under the stars with whānau and friends.

Plan Your Visit
Logan Park Drive will be closed on Saturday 21 June 2025, 6:00am – Sunday 22 June 12:00pm.
Please note: all vehicles parked on these streets in the above times will be towed.
To ensure your visit is as enjoyable as possible, we strongly encourage attendees to plan ahead.
Is there mobility parking available?
Mobility parking is located outside the Caledonian ground, with access off Butts Road.
Does the event still go ahead if it’s raining?
The event will go ahead regardless of weather. If the market is cancelled for any reason, a notice will be published on the DCC Facebook page.
Are there EFTPOS, ATM and credit facilities?
Many vendors accept EFTPOS and credit/debit cards but make sure you bring some cash as well.
Can I bring my dog?
To ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees, we kindly ask that you do not bring dogs to the event. The only exception is for guide dogs, which are welcome.
