Company of Strangers

Back to Insiders

The lines between fashion and art are blurry in this contemporary clothing space on George Street. Enter that space in-between and find something new and provoking to re-dress yourself. Sara Munro, creative director of Company of Strangers works with two designers to craft the line, working with luxurious fabrics and importing other pieces where necessary to complete their desired ‘look’. Company of Strangers also chooses a work by a local artist for each collection, which they print on various fabric and incorporate as the theme for a particular season.

With jewellery by local artists, a range of shoes and other fashion pieces, you will find everything you need to construct your outfit. Utilising their geographic isolation, the label has successfully escaped the conservatism of larger cities.

The shop has hosted film launches and has also featured various other art installations, including a live performance piece in the shop’s own windows. More than just participants in the fashion world, Company of Strangers endeavour to change it, stepping around the old stereotypes of snobby, untouchable fashion boutiques and creating a new fashion culture in the process.
