The Convention Activity Results (CAS) for year ending June 2014 have now been released and Dunedin has continued to show steady growth. Some points to note are:
- Overall growth of 1% in market share from previous year. One of only three regions to do so alongside Queenstown and Christchurch. This shows the growing confidence in South Island again. After earthquake happened, the Dunedin Centre was still closed and Queenstown and Nelson unable to take large conferences due to capacity, conferences kept their rotation in the north. This has been steadily changing
- Whilst we have only increased market share overall by 1% it is encouraging to know that this equates to a 32% increase from YE June 2013 in the number conference delegates coming to Dunedin.
- Origin of delegates …
- 22% of delegates International (includes Australia 9% ‘other’ 13%). Positive for Dunedin as the national average sits around 7% and a reflection of strong links from University conferences. International delegates spend on average 5.7 days in host region and approx. $365 per day
- 46% are domestic delegates spending approx. $482 per day (3 x more than leisure traveller)
- 32% made up by locals
