Hundreds of international students studying in Dunedin had an opportunity to meet prospective employers at a recent expo in the city.

International students adding value

09 August 2016

International education is a "great story'' for Dunedin, Otago Chamber of Commerce chief executive Dougal McGowan says.
People sometimes took for granted the value that it brought to the city, yet it provided ``massive'' added value.

``It's a great story of education, business and council working together to provide the city with economic vibrancy,'' he said.

International students added to the cultural and social dimension of Dunedin, as well as bringing in a considerable amount of money.

Education agreement set to boost Chinese student numbers into Dunedin

20 June 2016

Dunedin's Mayoral-led delegation to China has signed a major education agreement which has the potential to lift Chinese student numbers into the city considerably.

Mayor of Dunedin Dave Cull signed the agreement in Beijing on behalf of the Dunedin City Council with JJL, one of the largest education consulting and service companies in China with 30% of the Chinese market.

Mr Cull says that as part of the agreement, JJL will promote Dunedin as a destination for quality education, actively broker Chinese students into secondary school and higher education opportunities, and work with the University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic and local high schools to increase the number of international students in Dunedin.”
