English language enrolments up

A significant increase in the numbers of international students learning English in Otago is being hailed as a big win for the region. Figures released by Education New Zealand once again showed Otago was lagging behind most of the country when it came to overall international student numbers and numbers increased by only 1% to 5127, compared with a 13% rise nationally.

Mayor of Dunedin, Dave Cull joined New Zealand and Chinese mayors at the first New Zealand China Mayoral Forum in the city of Xiamen to build closer local government connections and discuss economic development. With our strong education relationship with Shanghai – Mayor Cull was chosen from the New Zealand delegation to be the lead speaker on education. He launched the Dunedin China education videos.

Surf's up for the University of Otago, named one of the world's best beachside universities. Otago was rated fifth behind Bond University in Queensland, the University of California in the United States, the University of Cape Town in South Africa and the University of Hawaii.
