Meridian Mall, Wall Street and The Golden Centre offer linked, multi-level shopping with specialty and chain stores offering a range of goods from cosmetics and fashion to sporting goods and homeware – and an international food court. Build shopping time into your visit!

Cuisine

Cuisine

Wests, The Gourmet Ice Cream Co. Ltd., The Friday Bakery, Guilty By Confection, Leckies Butchery Ltd., Taste Nature, Evansdale Cheese and Everyday Gourmet all pride themselves on offering the finest and freshest local produce.

Saturday morning means the colourful, vibrant and mouth-watering spectacle that is Farmers Market, down at Dunedin Railway Station.  Allcomers jostle amid more than seventy vendors to buy fresh meat, fish, fruit, eggs, baking and veggies, then rush home to prepare their food and eat.

Books

Books

It may be because of the winters here, but Dunedin-ites love their books. The city has also inspired an indecent number of writers – Frame, Baxter and Tuwhare to name a few.

We have great second-hand bookshops. Scribes, on the corner of Great King and St. David Streets, has Dunedin’s best selection, while Octagon Books (in Moray Place) was voted seventh-best bookshop in the world!

For new books, you can’t go past the multi award-winning University Book Shop. Marbecks in Wall Street is also good if you like a music-and-coffee kind of groove.

Bookshops aside, The Regent Theatre’s annual 24-Hour Book Sale has become a national institution, while Dunedin’s Public Library is much loved and very well patronised.

Collectables

Collectables

Broad Bay China, on Otago Peninsula, specialises in collectable ceramics.

Modern Miss and Purple Rain, on Moray Place and Princes Street respectively, do clothing and accessories.

Sue Todd Antiques & Collectables is also in Princes Street.

TIPS

Dunedin is home to some of the rarest wildlife in the World!

If you're coming to Dunedin make sure you check out the Otago Peninsula.
