Central Otago Rail Trail

The Otago Central Rail Trail runs between Middlemarch and Clyde. It follows the old Central Otago Branch railway line for 150km, making it the longest rail trail in New Zealand.

The trail is suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The surface can be variable with some loose rock and rutting but is generally flat to gently sloping.

Accommodation

Along the Rail Trail there is a variety of accommodation types available including hotels, motels, lodges, self-contained units, B&Bs and campgrounds.

On the trail itself there are no formal camping facilities but wilderness camping is available on the recreation reserve adjacent to the Trail. See the Department of Conservation for more information.

Book accommodation through the i-SITE Dunedin Visitor Centre.
