Dunedin Campervan Itinerary

Day One

  • Park your campervan in the all day park behind the railway Station and take a quick walk up to the i-Site Visitor Centre to meet the double decker bus. You can spend the day taking in Dunedin's top ten attractions.

  • After lunch at the Botanic Garden, either a picnic or at the cafe take some time to walk through the maze of trails. You can get pleasantly lost in the spectacular native and exotic plantings and you will be surprised by benches overlooking various aspects of the cityscape.

  • Take one of the city buses back into town or walk through the University grounds. There are plenty of dining spots on the way back through town if you fancy an early dinner before heading back to your carpark. Alternatively, get some fish and chips and head out to St Clair Esplanade for dinner on the beach.

Day Two

  • Pack a picnic and take a half-hour drive to Waikouaiti to explore Otago's earliest European settlement. You can visit Matanaka Farm before spreading your picnic by the Waikouaiti River.

  • After lunch and a swim, drive back into town to relax with a wander around the Otago Museum, including, of course, the butterflies!

Day Three

  • Park in the all day car park behind the Railway Station and spend the morning pottering through the Otago Settlers Museum and the NZ Sports Hall of Fame for two perspectives on Otago's history.

  • After lunch head to the Railway Station and take the Taieri Gorge Railway trip through magnificent scenery and engineering. There are refreshments available on board or you can pack some snacks.

  • When you return, pick up your vehicle and something for dinner and drive up to Upper Unity Park to watch the Harbour change as the light fades.

Day Four

  • Spend the day on the Otago Peninsula. You can stop at various spots as the mood seizes you, including Larnach Castle, Glenfalloch, the Fletcher House and Portobello Aquarium. You can top up your kitchen gear at some of the second hand shops in Portobello and continue out to Taiaroa Heads to see the Royal Albatrosses. Book your tour with us before you head out.

  • On the way back into the city, pause for dinner in Macandrew Bay. You will have glorious views of the sun setting over the city and Harbour.

Day Five

  • Spend the day on the Taieri Plains. Stop in Mosgiel for some shopping or to take the kids to the fantastic playground.

  • After picking up some lunch supplies, head down to the river for a swim and some fishing.

  • Before heading back into town take a detour up to Flagstaff for a walk up to views of Dunedin city, the Taieri Plains and Mosgiel.
