More summer swimmers at Dunedin's salt pool
Thursday, 26 January 2012
Dunedin's oldest salt water pool is having a record season, averaging about 400 visitors a day.
The St Clair Salt Water Pool, built during the late 1800s, experienced one of its busiest Decembers with more than 10,000 people taking a dip in the hot salt pool.
The 25m pool is heated to 28C, with a mixture of salt and chlorinated water, and facilities include six lanes, a toddlers' pool, a changing area for the disabled and a cafe.
The pool's hours have been extended this season, opening at the start of October instead of the traditional Labour Weekend.
It's open from 6am to 7pm Mondays to Fridays and 7am to 7pm at weekends.
The pool will close on March 31.
