A crafty Dunedin idea goes global

Friday, 21 October 2011

Dunedin visitors are taking the city home with them thanks to a local photographer and her crafty ability.

Elaine Grant-Dolby has perfected the art of putting her photographs onto glass coasters after seeing a gap in the Dunedin visitor market back in 2007.

“My first glass coaster set was the lambs and they still the most popular, but generic photos of Dunedin and New Zealand are also being snapped up.”

Each set is handcrafted by Elaine and sold in the Art Station Gallery as well as in i-SITES around Otago.

Her desire to share Dunedin’s beauty started with mounting images onto blocks - which she still does - and then onto glass coasters, bookmarks and designer cards.

Elaine estimates her Dunedin and New Zealand themed glass coasters have found their way into hundreds, if not thousands of homes around the world.
