Day four (last day)

Day #3

Wylde Willow Gardens

Leave your accommodation about 8.30am for a 8.50am visit

Wylde Willow – 8.50am
Just south of Dunedin in the suburb of Abbotsford a hectare of waste land has been imaginatively converted into a young and unusual garden.

A small creek that runs the length of the property is crossed by little bridges and studded with grand century old crack willows carefully pruned to become striking features. Underneath a variety of rhododendrons and other shrubs flourish while woodland perennials and damp loving plants add to the 'wylde' atmosphere.

A mass planting of daffodils in the orchard is a special feature in spring while in early summer hundreds of heritage roses (and some modern) are an outstanding attraction when they flower around the house and along the driveway. Wide lawns set off beds of perennials in pastel colours near the house. Beyond in a park land setting, there is a reflective pond with marginal plantings.

Depart Wylde Willow and travel about 15 minutes to Northview.

Northview – 10.45am
The garden covers five acres, two acres around the house is largely flat land with lawns, ponds, roses, rhododendrons, a dovecote and many sculptures. The other three acres is sloping hillside with paths winding amongst 430 rhododendrons, many trees and 500 hydrangeas. A series of waterfalls is under construction in the gully alongside the drive.

Depart Northview and travel about 30 minutes to Grandview

Grandview – 12.45pm
Two acres of wonderful gardens, including ponds, water features, lavenders, oaks, large rhododendrons, native trees, aviaries and many rustic features overlooking the Taieri Plains. Grandview is a favoured venue for weddings and private functions.
