Isabella Harrex

Joining Stu on his food adventure around Dunedin is local photographer Isabella Harrex.

Isabella is a self-proclaimed foodie. “I'm passionate about exploring the food we have here in Dunedin. We have so many wonderful local producers, and I love finding delicious morsels at the market, trying a new beer at a bar, or sampling beautiful Otago seafood.”

Isabella has been involved in the photography industry for about 10 years. She has a number of qualifications in the field including a Diploma in Professional Photography and a Bachelor of Visual Arts.

“I’m really excited about putting the spotlight on our wonderful Dunedin cuisine. Visually I hope to encourage more visitors to plan a holiday or short break to Dunedin specifically around food.”

Isabella is taking a series of images at each establishment Stu goes to.

Isabella on Dunedin:

How long have you lived in Dunedin?
Nineteen years, with a few breaks in between.

What else are you working on?
I'm the photographer for Otago Polytechnic Marketing & Design, so that always keeps me very busy - and also shooting a few weddings, portraits and freelance advertorial jobs.

Where do you go for a coffee?
If I'm in town - Mash. At the beach it’s Starfish and in the suburbs - Delicacy. When I’m working on campus I like to get my coffee from Fluid.

What’s your fondest Dunedin memory?
That would be Christmas on the beach at Doctor's Point in 37 degree heat, and swimming at Buckland's Crossing.

Where do you like to go on a Sunday?
I love going out to the Otago Peninsula, or to our old house at Doctor's Point.

Do you have a favourite Dunedin activity?
Walking. We have so many beautiful walks in our city. My favourites are Tunnel Beach, Lover's Leap & the Flagstaff/Swampy summit link track.
Also, getting the girls together over a bottle of wine and an antipasto platter on a Friday night!

What do you think is Dunedin’s best kept secret?
That sometimes it actually gets rather hot here! Seriously though, probably our proximity to nature. We have everything on our doorstep - beaches, mountains, wildlife, heritage buildings, forests and rivers. You couldn't really find a more diverse city in New Zealand!
