I love going to a restaurant I’ve never been before. It’s always an adventure seeking out new places to share with friends and family. My latest find is The Rainforest.

The Rainforest is a fully authentic Malaysian restaurant. I’m told its head chef Rajan Sandrasegaran and his brother Uges and have been trained in the traditional Malaysian way by first knowing a chef then paying them in smokes and beer to school you in the art of Malaysian cooking. After years of training they have gone on to running restaurants, and eateries around the globe. I guess that is why the food is so authentic and that they do it so well.

A must try for me was the Masala Those - a giant Asian crepe made out of rice flour filled with potatoes and served with dhal and coconut chutney. Then there is their famous satay sauce. If you haven’t had the real thing before it is well worth a try.

The highlight of my visit was stepping into their kitchen. I have never seen such a place. Flames were flying, breads were being twirled. The place was like a choreographed stage show.  It was a privilege to watch these guys in action.

What I enjoy about Malaysian food is its freshness. Each mouthful is packed with taste. Eating at Rainforest I instantly remembered the flavors and smells from my recent overseas experience.

Without a doubt Rainforest is an awesome place. I can’t wait to take my mates along.
