How many times do you hear of a place, drive past it a few times a week but don’t actually go in. I was like that with Relish Restaurant and Bar in the Mecure Hotel, until just recently.
I confess it may have been due to my preconception about hotel restaurants but my visit to Relish has shown me how wrong I have been and, more importantly, what I’ve been missing out on.
Located in a building that dates back to 1862, Relish has turned my idea of hotel food upside down. The menu features my favourite foods and balances it with new dishes – many of which have been inspired by overseas cooking trends.
A group of young ladies are dining beside me, celebrating a birthday I’m told. There is a mix of other people dining the night I visited. I take this opportunity to steal a quick glance at a few of their dishes. Yup, coming back here I think to myself before tucking into my meal which is wonderfully presented on large tiles.
I head to the bar for a drink. The bartender asks me to flip a coin – guess heads or tails and win a free drink. This is my lucky night I think.
For what was a lovely experience, I did leave a little sore. The whole time I was at Relish I kept kicking myself for not visiting sooner.
