Dunedin Visiting Friends and Relatives Monitor

The Dunedin Visiting Friends and Relatives Monitor provides a snapshot of non-commercial VFR activity in Dunedin for the period July 2003 to June 2004.

A hard copy is available at the Dunedin Public Library. The main findings of the Monitor are as follows:

It is estimated that almost 352,000 people travelled to Dunedin for the purpose of visiting friends and relatives between July 2003 and June 2004. This equates to approximately 29,300 VFR visitors per month on average.
As a rough and broad estimation, the average length of stay for VFR visitors is 2.7 nights.


Estimated VFR person nights is over 941,000, an increase of 18% over the previous year.
Domestic visitors accounted for 62% of the total number of nights, Australian visitors accounted for 8% and other international visitors comprised 30%.
