Data collected in this monitor covers the Dunedin and Clutha region, and includes statistics on accommodation types, guests, nights stayed, international/domestic guests, capacity, occupancy rates.

CAM Brief

  • 529,636 visitors arrived to Dunedin in 2006, staying 898,940 nights in commercial accommodation.
  • Overall, domestic visitors spent 525,330 nights in the region, accounting for 58% of all visitor nights, and international visitors spent 373,595 nights in the region, accounting for 42%.
  • Visitor nights in commercial accommodation increased 3.9%, This growth is greater than the average national growth of -1.0%.
  • Domest visitor nights in commercial accommodation increased 3.4% over the same period.
  • International visitor nights in commercial accommodation increased 8.1% over the same period.
  • The average occupancy rate in commercial accommodation was 51%, compared with the national average occupancy rate of 37%.
  • Total commercial accommodation capacity increased 12.2%.
